Friendship

Friendship Club

Our club has been meeting for very many years.  There was a break between 1992 and 3 when no-one came forward to run the club.  Between 1993 and 2022 Dorothy Wain, along with Rosalyn Sneath and Ann Freeman organised the activities very successfully.  At the end of 2021 a request was made for new people to step into the breach and Judith Tudberry, Carol Hicking and Sue Faull came forward.
The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, from January until the end of June and then September until the end of November, finishing with a Christmas lunch.  The club enables older members (though people of all ages are welcome) to enjoy friendship over a cup of tea and various activities from 2 – 4pm in the village hall, High St, Willingham by Stow.
A varied programme is on offer – speakers and quizzes, craft and games and the occasional outing.  So far in 2022 we have had 5 fascinating talks, we’ve played seated balloon badminton, made a display for the church, had a sing along with accordions, taken part in quizzes, tasted pancakes and smoked salmon and drunk plenty of mugs of tea.
As well as Willingham residents, we have members from a number of the surrounding villages.  Please come and join us – you will be made very welcome.

Dave Bussey talked to us about his life in radio broadcasting.  He was then co-opted into playing the Ugly Sister in a much reduced version of Cinderella.
Dorothy played Cinderella, Judith the fairy godmother, Sue Prince Charming and Hazel the narrator.

We decorated hands to make a display about the Friendship club for Open Churches weekend.  It is now hanging on the village hall wall.
